NSDO Board of Directors

Maurene Horder     Chair and Managing Director

Maurene Horder is an independent consultant.  She is an experienced senior executive with extensive understanding of governance and administration, from the Australian Institute of Company Directors.  She has been an executive, or had Board roles, within private companies and in government authorities in the fields of law, demography, environmental engineering, education and accommodation & catering.

Originally, she graduated as a teacher.  After being a member of the ACT House of Representatives for 7 years, where she had a term in minority government, she had a number of roles in private industry.  This included roles as a senior executive with the Plastics and Chemicals Industry (PACIA) and the Plastics Industry Association (PIA) for over 8 years.  She then joined the National Marine Safety Committee Inc. (NMSC) as CEO for 9 years.  The NMSC was responsible for a wide range of standards for Australia's maritime industry and developed new standards for commercial vessels and recreational boating, and associated regulations for implementation by all Australian Governments.  Her most recent role was as CEO of the Migration Institute of Australia.

Maurene was elected to the Board in July 2014 and appointed Chair.

Peter Reeves     Deputy Chair

Peter Reeves is Principal Consultant at Reeves IMS Consulting.   Peter graduated in applied science (chemistry) and has extensive qualifications in business, including a MBA.  He was an Honorary Fellow of the Quality Society of Australia, a Fellow of the American Society for Quality and has published on conformity assessment and business issues.  He has participated in a number of Standards Australia committees.  

His career in the manufacturing and service industry in Australia includes more than 20 years at Caltex Australia. He had a series of roles including Quality Assurance Manager, and Coordinator of the merger of the manufacturing facilities of Caltex and Ampol.  He founded Reeves IMS Consulting in 1997 and then undertook a number of roles including 3 years as General Manager of the Window and Door Industry Council (WADIC) and 5 years as the National Manager Assessment of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia.  There he managed the assessment process for the accreditation of pharmacies under the Guild’s national quality management system. He also managed the accreditation of the Guild’s standards development activities by the (Standards Australia) Accreditation Board for Standards Development Organisations (ABSDO).

Peter was elected to the Board in July 2014. 

Suzanne Little  Director

Suzanne is a pioneer of the environment profession and has been a non-executive board director for 10 years. During her comprehensive career as an environmental practitioner, she was employed by 15 organisations.  Her current focus is her directorships on the boards of three standards-development organisations. They include Australian Forest Standard Ltd and Australian Land Management Group.

At NSDO she represents the Environment Institute of Australia & New Zealand as a collective member.  She is a former Vice-President, Australia and NSW Councillor of EIANZ.  Previously she was the environment director for Sydney’s Olympic Games and the environment manager of three of the nation's big corporations:  AGL, SAI Global and Vodafone Australia. 

She holds two master degrees. The first was in Science and her second (recent) degree is in Arts, specialising in non-fiction writing.  With this combination she hopes to communicate science and sustainability via standards so that environmental improvements can be communicated clearly and implemented broadly.

Suzanne was elected to the Board in July 2014.  Her committee work includes Chair of NSDO's Standards Development Committee and Chair of Committee PP-20, that drafts NSDO's Standards.  She was Executive Director from December 2014 to August 2015 and managed the daily operation at NSDO.

Herve Michoux    Director

Herve Michoux is Managing Director of Global Mark Pty Ltd.  He is a mechanical engineer who qualified in Lyon, France, and is a Chartered Professional Engineer and a Member of Engineers Australia.  He has numerous qualification in business and conformity assessment areas, including being a Registered Senior Auditor with RABQSA International for QMS, OHS and EMS.  He is involved in a number of government and Standards Australia committees.  

He joined Bureau Veritas (a Classification / Certification Register) and in 1988, after a short stay at its headquarters in Paris, he transferred to head its Certification/Accreditation operations in Australia.  In 1993, he joined Benchmark Certification Pty Ltd as Managing Director.  In late 2004, he started Global-Mark and, at about the same time set up National Standards Pty Ltd (now superseded by NSDO).  Through his work with Bureau Veritas, Benchmark and Global-Mark, he has been extensively involved in certification and accreditation activities in a number of fields.

Herve was reaffirmed as a Director in July 2014 in recognition of his role as Benefactor of NSDO.

Nigel Howard      Director

Nigel Howard is Principal of Clarity Environment, an environmental consultancy specialising in Life Cycle Assessment, especially for the building, construction and products’ sectors.  Clarity is also completing the development and commercialisation of the ENVEST® suite of LCA/LCC building design tools.

Nigel is a Chartered Chemist (FRSC) who after reading “Limits to Growth” at aged 19 has dedicated his career to researching and promoting environmental sustainability, especially for buildings.  He has had a diverse career in NGO’s and in business and has an international reputation for his work in Life Cycle Assessment and in Building Rating tool development and implementation. 

Nigel is a former Director of the UK Centre for Sustainable Construction, which developed and implemented the BREEAM building rating tools and the Green Guides to Specification.  He is a former Vice President and CTO for the US Green Building Council, responsible for LEED and International Programs.  He has contributed internationally by representing the UK on IEA Annex 31 and CEN TC59 and he was a founding member of the World GBC and the International Initiative for Sustainability in the Built Environment – Green Building Challenge and the SB Conference series.  In Australia, Nigel was COO for the Green Building Council of Australia for a short period before transitioning and leading a management buy-out of the Australian office of BRANZ to form the Edge Environment consultancy.
